| More than two
decades of development has promoted Dongguan to an international
processing and manufacturing base of a moderate scale.
The more than 14,400 foreign-invested enterprises of
the city have constituted a modernized industrial system
with the mainstay industries of electronics, information,
photoelectricity, mechanics, automobile accessories,
quality garments and textiles, furniture and construction
materials, metal, plastics and rubber. This self-contained
system has a powerful competitive strength in the international
market with integrated supporting facilities for both
upstream establishment and downstream processing units,
an established industry chain, reasonable structure
and superior efficiency.
The computer and information
industry has become the backbone of the city’s
economy. As in 2002, there were more than 3,000 registered
enterprises in this field, manufacturing up to 95% of
all the components and peripherals of a computer. More
than ten products from this industry of the city have
held a market share of higher than 10% in the international
market (See Table 2).
