Dongguan Songshan Lake Science
and Technology Industrial Park
This park is a province-level
development zone for new and high-tech industries approved
by the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government
in November 2001. The park occupies an area of 72 km2,
of which nearly 8 km2 is covered by fresh lake water
and rich vegetation. The park enjoys a superior geographical
location as the geometric center of the city in the
heart of the Pearl River Delta, hence its convenient
traffic. In May 2002, the park was awarded the title
of the Most Promising Development Zone for New and High-Tech
Industries. This marked the formation of a fine image,
which has attracted more and more attention from home
and abroad. At present, a large number of research and
educational institutions and new and high-tech industries
have stationed in the park. Hundreds of famous enterprises
from various countries and regions have contacted the
park for further negotiation.

Development Zone of Humen Port
In 1997, Humen Port was approved
by the State Council as a Class A customs port opened
to foreign ships. The planned area of the port totals
290 km2, including a land area of 211 km2 and a water
area of 79 km2. The annual handling volume of the port
is higher than 60 million tons, with an annual growth
rate of 15% for containers, which exceeded 4 million
TEU containers in year 2002.
Based on the advantages in
resources provided by Humen Port, the Development Zone
has set up the aim to build a “unique economy,
prosperous port, vigorous new district and new coastal
city”. The uniqueness of the development zone
lies in port services and logistics, with emphases on
the development of container terminals, logistics, port

Eastern Industrial Parks
The Eastern Industrial Parks
are located at the junction between the four towns of
Changping, Qishi, Qiaotou and Hengli, with a planned
total area of 74.43 km2, of which 37.42 km2 are the
park premises. The parks are designed as an industrial
base focusing on modern processing and manufacturing,
with minor functions of research and development as
well as vacation, culture, education and recreation.
Great emphasis has been attached to ecosystem and sustainable
development in the general planning. The parks will
take advantage of the expansive influence of the town
of Changping, which is a key position on the Beijing-Kowloon
Railway. Adjustment of the industrial structure will
be launched to promote the development of the neighboring
towns of Qiaotou, Qishi and Hengli, which, in turn,
will create a manufacturing center and growth pole in
the eastern part of Dongguan.

Township Industrial Parks
Under the guideline of “one
networking (a general term including road network, electricity
network, and water network), two districts (central
district of the city and districts with high-tech parks)
and three cards (urban economy, foreign-invested enterprises
and private enterprises)” resolved by the Municipal
Committee of the CPC and the Municipal Government, every
town or district has been developing industrial parks,
which has attracted a large number of large-scale enterprises
with high technical content. Mainstay industries such
as electronics, mechanics and textile have thus been
established while unique industry groups have also been
formed, such as garments in Humen Town, furniture in
Houjie Town, textile in Dalang Town and Electronics
in Qingxi Town.
